Highlights from our July Fine Art Sale

These stunning William Moorcroft vases proved popular at our latest Fine Art sale. Lot 182 (left) was a Moorcroft Claremont Toadstool vase that sold for £1700, while lot 245 was a rare and unusual shaped Moorcroft vase, decorated with fish and jellyfish, that found a new home for £1200.

Our Fine Art sale this month took place over three days instead of the usual two – there was that many lots to get through! – on Thursday 8th, Friday 9th and Saturday 10th July and featured an exciting array of items, from dinnerware and other household items to a very large assortment of rare pottery pieces, gold jewellery, timepieces and more.

Plenty of lots from our online auction live from the Silverdale Saleroom sold for a good price, so check out some of the highlights from our most recent auction below. Who knows? Maybe they’ll provide some inspiration if you have a valuation in mind.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Gents Wrist watch with 18ct gold bi metallic bracelet

The top selling lot and star of this month’s auction was definitely this Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Gents Wrist watch with 18ct gold bi metallic bracelet, which sold for an incredible £4050!

18th century 8-day oak long case clock with brass 11 inch dial

This stunning 18th century 8-day oak long case clock with brass 11 inch dial sold for an outstanding £3000 on the Sunday of our 3-day Fine Art sale.

18ct gold half hunter Waltham pocket watch and South African Gold Krugerrand dated 1975

We had many interesting gold lots pass through our Silverdale saleroom this month, including this pocket watch and coin. Lot 1788 was an 18ct gold half hunter Waltham pocket watch that sold for an incredible £1400, while Lot 1749 was a South African Gold Krugerrand dated 1975 that sold for an amazing £1200.

Buddhist silver coloured metal GAU shrine and 18ct gold diamond ring 1ct old cut

This unique Buddhist silver coloured metal GAU shrine (left) is a high quality piece with gilt decoration that sold for a very impressive £1900, while this statement 18ct gold diamond ring 1ct old cut sold for a whopping £1200.

As always, pottery pieces proved very popular at auction this month and we saw a large quantity of rare pottery, including vases, jugs and figurines from famous names such as Beswick, Royal Doulton and Wedgwood, pass through our saleroom and fetch some amazing prices. Check out some of the best performing lots below.

Royal Doulton character jugs always prove popular with our buyers due to their high collectability and unique charm, and the ones included in our July Fine Art sale this month were no exception. The highest selling one was the Elvis Presley prototype character jug (top left) that sold for a stupendous £3400!

A Beswick girl on pony model, and a Beswick Piebald shire horse

Beswick horses are another area of pottery that pique plenty of people’s interest when they pass through our saleroom, especially if they’re rare like these two lots. Lot 476 (left) is a Beswick girl on pony model that found a new home for £1500, while Lot 478 (right) is a Beswick Piebald shire horse that sold for £1100.

We were very pleased to have a fantastic selection of Wedgwood going under the hammer this month. Mostly from a single owner collection, there were over 300 lots to check out! Lot 871 (left), a Wedgwood white on pale blue limited edition snake handled vase and stand, sold for a show stopping £4000, while Lot 872, a Wedgwood Saxon blue large Portland Vase, sold for £1500.
