One of the World’s Largest Beswick Collections is Coming to Potteries Auctions this May!

Debbie Porter

We have a huge Beswick collection that has been sent to us from America, which includes these gorgeous leopard and panther figurines. To give you an idea of the size of the collection – it arrived in an articulated lorry!

Potteries Auctions is incredibly honoured to welcome one of the world’s largest single owner collections of Beswick pieces into our Silverdale saleroom, which we will be selling at auction in May. The collection belonged to the late Bill Peck who lived in Seattle, Washington, USA, and includes mainly Beswick pottery and Royal Doulton pieces.

An avid Beswick collector who was both well-known and well-loved in the antiques community, Bill Peck was a longshoreman for many years prior to his retirement from the Port of Seattle, and sadly passed away in October 2019. Bill often travelled to England and became acquainted with one of our valuers in the early 1990s, as they met several times through Beswick collectors’ fairs and Antique fairs.

We were contacted in September 2020 to consult on selling Bill’s vast and wonderful collection and advised that, as the main market for Beswick pottery is UK-based, it would be best to send the collection over to the UK where it would be the most appreciated.

Using our experience and knowledge of transporting auction goods internationally, we also advised on arranging the most sensible and cost-effective shipping rates to get everything safely and securely across the Atlantic. Eventually, the collection was packed up into 157 large boxes and shipped from Seattle in a 20ft container – ironically only 7.5 miles from where these items were manufactured from the 1930s up until the late 1990s!

We are planning to sell the collection at our Silverdale saleroom in a specialist auction of this single owner collection in May, which will take over our regularly scheduled auction for that month on the second weekend (Friday 7th – Saturday 8th). Keep an eye on our Upcoming Auctions page for more details and on our News page for more information on specific or interesting lots as and when we uncover them.

The collection will be sold in mixed categories across the 2-day auction and will include rare horses, animals, birds, cattle, fish, butterflies, Beatrix Potter, Kitty MacBride, comical animals and Colin Melbourne design animal and bird models, as well as Beswick Ware early items such as vases, centre pieces, dishes, bowls, tea and dinner ware, plus much more!
