The Potteries Auctions July Fine Art sale is a three-day online auction taking place at 10am across Thursday 7th, Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July. We are offering in-person viewing for this auction from Monday 4th – Wednesday 6th July by appointment only, please contact us to book your slot.

Lot 1843 is a square brilliant cut diamond (1.51ct, colour K, clarity SI2, platinum set) large solitaire dress ring (size M), complete with GIA verification report/certificate dated 2020. This gorgeous ring is set to sell for £2,500 – £5,000.
Day one – Thursday 7th July
Kicking off our three-day Fine Art auction this summer, we have a good collection of Kevin Francis Peggy Davis figurines including many limited editions, one off colourways, erotic figures, character figures, grotesque bird figures, artist proofs and more. Following on from that, we have many pieces by Beswick as well as Royal Albert Beatrix Potter figures, including many rare editions prototype figures, tableau pieces, rare pieces such as Duchess with flowers, and many more hard to find figures.
There’s plenty of Beswick being featured, including rare figures, fish, wild animals, rare horses, birds, dogs and cats, as well as two never seen before prototype cowboy and Indian on horseback figures in natural colours. We have a large collection of Royal Doulton Bunnykins figurines, including rare prototypes, rare limited edition figurines and oompah band colourway sets, and many other early and rare Royal Doulton figurines – many from the 1920s – such as limited editions, prestige figures, prototypes, animals, flambe and much more. As always, there’s a wonderful array of Royal Doulton character jugs too, including rare prototypes, military leaders, and many rare, hard to find pieces.
Thursday will also feature a superb collection of Royal Doulton and Doulton Lambeth stoneware artist pieces by artists such as Hannah Barlow, Florence Barlow, George Tinworth, Frank Butler, Eliza Simmance, Francis Pope, Percy Curnock and others. One lot to look out for is a fantastic, spectacular and important Doulton Lambeth faience wall charger by John H McLennan that was exhibited in the V and A museum, and was part of the Richard Dennis 1975 exhibition.
Ending the first day of our Fine Art auction will be a wonderful collection of Royal Crown Derby, including limited edition paperweights, hand painted artist signed pieces and more!
Lot 502 is a Hannah Barlow for Doulton Lambeth. A fabulous pair of vases, each decorated with a central band of lions and lioness surrounded with scrolling foliage. They come with an estimate of £3,000 – £5,000
Day two – Friday 8th July
The Friday of our three-day auction features 660 lots of a fantastic selection of miscellaneous pottery items, with many local and world manufacturers of pottery, including a small collection of Pilkington Royal Lancastrian by William Mycock, Richard Joyce, and Edward Radford.
There’s superb collections of Shelley china, Coalport, Aynsley, W H Goss, Charlotte Rhead, Clarice Cliff, Susie Cooper, Burgess and Leigh, Paragon China, Carltonware, Capodimonte, James Kent chintz, Simon Carroll, Jessie Van Halen, Lorna Bailey, Anita Harris, Meissen, Dresden, Border Fine Arts, Crown Devon, Wade, Minton, and Lladro, as well as 18th and 19th-century Staffordshire figures, an early slipware combed oven dish, a Watcombe Majolica lizard stick stand, and a good collection of Charles Vyse figures.
There’s an extensive collection of Wedgwood in this sale, including designer pieces by Norman Wilson, John Skeaping, Eric Ravilious, Keith Murray, Jasperware, basalt and hand painted pieces. They’ll also be large dinner and tea services from the likes of Royal Albert, Wedgwood, Minton, Royal Doulton, Hammersley and Spode, as well as over 100 lots of Moorcroft including William and Walter Moorcroft, Macintyre pieces from 1900 and prestige pieces from modern day!
The last section of Friday’s sale is a fantastic collection of Royal Worcester hand painted pieces amassed by a local collector over the past 40 years, including hand painted pieces by Kitty Blake, H Stinton, J Stinton, Edward Raby, E Spilsbury, E Townsend, Ricketts, Roberts, M Hunt, F Roberts, G Cole, C Baldwyn, R Seabright and more.
Lot 1212 is a Royal Worcester two handled vase and cover decorated by Charles Baldwin and is looking to be sold for £2,000 – £4,000.
Day three – Saturday 9th July
The Saturday, our third and final day, features an array of antique and good reproduction furniture, with a splendid selection of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, display cabinets, chest of drawers, chairs and more.
There’s Danish mid-century furniture by Arne Hovmand-Olsen and Bernard Pedersen, a John Broadway & Sons baby grand piano, oriental rugs, grandfather and mantle and wall clocks, a Jaeger le Coultre Atmos clock, a 19th-century Austrian carriage clock by Adolf Uhlig, collections of bracket and carriage clocks, as well as paintings, etchings and pictures by local artist Reginald Hagger, Herbert Betteley, Doris Brown, Albert Wagg, Herbert Dicksee and more.
