Shelley Tea Ware Steals the Show at September Sale

Lot 60 featured 32 pieces of assorted Shelley tea and dinner ware in a 13291 pattern in blue. The lot came with an estimate sale price of £50-£100, but eventually sold for a very impressive £300 at our September auction

Our September Fine Art Sale this past weekend featured a whole host of interesting lots to attract every type of buyer and collector, including a wide range of rare and wonderful 20th century British pottery and porcelain. We had an excellent selection of great tea, coffee, and dinner ware by leading names such as Wedgwood, Paragon and Aynsley on offer, as well as brilliant pottery items from Royal Doulton, Moorcroft, Martin Brothers, Coalport, Beswick and many, many more.

It was the sheer range and variety of rare Shelley tea sets and dinner ware, however, that appeared to steal the show over the weekend. Not only did we have an exciting array of Shelley china going under the hammer, but many lots proved to be highly sought after and fetched some impressive prices at our Silverdale saleroom. Lot 72 came with an estimated price of £30-£60 but sold for a very impressive £460 in the end. The lot featured a collection of assorted Shelley Mable Lucy Attwell items including a 'There was a Little Man' rhyme trio, 'A Fairy Boat' rhyme trio, 'Fairies Love Motoring All About' trio, 'Look at the Fairies' beaker, and 'The man in the Moon' breakfast bowl

A 40-piece assortment of Shelley china tea ware in pattern 11361

Lot 57 was an assortment of Shelley china that included 40 pieces of tea ware in pattern 11361 that sold for £500 at our September sale

2 collections of Shelley Cabaret sets in the Dolly Varden pattern 3744 and 3750

Lots 103 and 104 both featured collections of Shelley Cabaret sets, with 103 in the Dolly Varden pattern 3744 and 104 in the Dolly Varden pattern 3750. Both lots were set to go under the hammer for £30-£60 but in the end sold for much more, with lot 103 going for an incredibly impressive £950 and lot 104 for £800

Lot 63 – This rare Shelley tulip-handled lemon and blue Art Deco tea set was set to go under the hammer for between £850-£1700 and sold for a very respectable £1350 at auction
