Poole Pottery and Anita Harris

Debbie Porter

Poole Pottery was based in Poole, Dorset, England.  Founded in 1873 on Poole quayside, it continued to produce pottery by hand before moving its factory operations away from the quay in 1999. Production continued at the new site in Sopers Lane until its closure in 2006.  Historical products from Poole Pottery are displayed in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

For all pottery enthusiasts you can visit the “Poole Pottery on the Quay Shop and Studio”, where you can see several skilled artists at work, including Alan White, a master potter, who has been associated with Poole Pottery for over 40 years.  Alan’s designs and shapes are sought after by collectors worldwide.

Anita Harris has had experience in some of the UK’s leading potteries including Poole Pottery for over 10 years, where she was a senior designer and decorator.  Anita also did designing and decorating for Cobridge Stoneware Pottery.

Anita Harris formed “Anita Harris Art Pottery” with fellow designer Samantha Johnson.  Anita’s son, Peter Harris has also joined the team thus showing that the artistic gene runs in the Harris family.

Anita Harris has been responsible for a number of new pottery glazes and designs, and her work includes exclusive designs for Liberty, Harrods, Tiffany and Bloomingdales.

In our November 26th Sale, we have some wonderful examples from Anita Harris and Poole Pottery. Our online catalogue will be available shortly.
