  • Potteries Specialist Auctions (PSA) holds regular monthly sales in pottery and ceramics, and specialises in 20th Century collectable ceramics.

  • Sales attract national and international interest, and PSA holds world records for prices achieved on Royal Doulton, Beswick, Wade and Carlton Ware.

  • Sales...
    • Sales are roughly 1 per month, with a minimum of 12 per year.
    • Sales may be general or specialist (eg Doulton and Beswick, Pendelfin and Beatrix Potter).
    • All sales are catalogued. Catalogues are available by post (on request), and are also put on the website (for download).

  • The PSA Website. The PSA website provides information on:
    • PSA (the company, staff, location).
    • Future sales.
    • Past sales.
    • How we conduct business (including how you can sell and/or buy through us).
Sale details include dates/times (sale and viewing), sale type, catalogues, photos, results and write-ups. (Results are posted on the website within a few hours or the close of a sale).
  • Buying...
    • Viewing: Viewing takes place on the day of the sale (a couple of hours before the sale) and on a number of days (1 or 2) prior to the day of the sale.
    • Bidding: You can bid in one of several ways:
      • by attending in person (you bid for yourself)
      • by placing a commission bid in advance (you tell us the maximum you are prepared to pay, and we bid on your behalf)
Information must be sent in advance, by post, email, fax or phone. Information relayed by phone must be confirmed in writing prior to sale.
      • by means of a live telephone bid (you bid, we relay the bids)
Must be arranged in advance (as the number of lines is limited).
    • Condition Report: If you are unable to view and examine an item for yourself, it is recommended that you request a Condition Report beforehand.
The Condition Report serves as a form of guarantee as to the condition of an item. If you bid on an item without viewing it and without requesting a Condition Report, you do so at your own risk.
  • Selling...
    • Entering items: Entries for a sale close roughly 4 weeks prior to the sale.

  • The auction process...
    • The auction proceeds at a rate of roughly 100-150 lots per hour (depending on who is conducting the auction).
