Potteries Specialist Auctions - Auction date: 17 August 2005 - Report Potteries Specialist Auctions held the third of its Royal Doulton and Beswick Specialist Sales of 2005 on Wednesday 17th August. As usual there was much interest both locally and nationally with a lot of keen collectors and trade having travelled for the day. There were many commission bidders and live telephone bidders from as far away as USA and Australia. The first one hundred and ten lots consisted of Royal Doulton Bunnykins with steady prices realised throughout and only two items unsold. The limited edition Goalkeeper DB116 and Footballer DB117 realised £242 each. Trick or Treat DB162 made £345. Next came Seriesware and Stoneware with a rare pair of Coaching Days Salad Servers Silver Plated fetching £173 and a large Stoneware charger of a Lady realising £219. Over two hundred lots of Doulton Figures were to follow with decent prices throughout proving this particular area of collectables are still very strong. Jolly Sailor HN2172 made £368 and a very rare figure Mamselle HN659 which was very badly damaged managed an exceptional £978. Folly HN1335 made £725 despite restoration and Verena HN1835 fetched £690. Next came Snowman and general Doulton including the Tolkien Lord of The Rings Middle Earth Figure Display Stand which realised £414. Doulton animals followed with an exceptionally large Flambe Elephant signed by Noke and measuring 33cm in height realising £1668. A Flambe Seated Bull Dog HN881 with an impressed date 1917 fetched £552. Next on the agenda was a sizeable collection of Character and Toby Jugs including the large sized Hatless Drake D6115 inscribed with “Drake he was a Devon Man” which made £1438. The Red Haired Clown D5610 style one realised £1725 and a limited edition John Peel Loving Cup fetched £483. As usual the highest prices were in Beswick reflecting the sustained interest in the market. The most buoyant area still being farm animals and horses. The Hunting series pieces proved ever popular with the Huntslady on a grey horse 1730 realising £460 and the first version Huntsman on a rearing horse 868 fetching £598. A restored Huntsman on a rocking horse grey 1501 made £2243 and a rare prototype Huntsman on a black horse jumping a fence fetched £2875. The Black Hunter produced in a limited edition of only five hundred for UKI Ceramics realised £472. It was the last Beswick horse made at the Nile Street factory before its closure. An early version of a Shire 818 in rocking horse grey realised £483 despite not having a backstamp, and a Pony with Head Up 1197 in the same colour made £863. A black Shire Horse 818 fetched £598. A Cowboy on a Palomino 1377 with a restored tail realised £759 and the Knight in Armour the Earl of Warwick 1145 with restoration made £863. The Gamecock 2059 realised £518, Stoat 1021 in white gloss £575 and the Running Hare in tan gloss 1024 made £667. A Dairy Shorthorn Cow 1510 realised £633 and the rare Merino Ram 1917 realised £1495. Lots are now being accepted for the 20th Century Ceramics and Collectables Auction to be held on 21st September and also for the next Royal Doulton and Beswick Auction on 16th November.
